Motorcycle Track Day

Enhance and improve your riding skills in a safe, closed-course environment free of the dangers and distractions of public roads.

WHAT... ? An Executive Motorcycle Track Day.

WHEN…? Monday, June 2nd, 2008.

WHERE…? Calabogie Motorsports Park in Calabogie (ON), Canada's newest motorsports facility. To find out more about this amazing road course, visit: www.calabogiemotorsports.com.

What makes this track day different…? This is an Executive Track Day aimed primarily at riders with sport-touring motorcycles* and more mature riders who may be intimidated by a regular track day full of racers. The primary goal of our Track Day is for you to have FUN in a Non-Competitive environment. We do not allow RACING. We have strict passing rules. Timing of laps and stunts of any kind are forbidden. Besides having the time of your life, you'll improve your braking and cornering skills, which will make you a better and safer street rider.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Remember... we ride rain or shine, so there are no refunds because of weather.

If you cancel more than 30 days before the event, you are eligible to receive a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. If you cancel less than 30 days before the event, no refund is allowed. However, if we have an established waiting list and can fill your position, then we will refund less a $25 administrative fee.

GROUP DESIGNATIONS:

BLUE GROUP:

Designed for newer riders with a minimum of two riding seasons to their credit but no prior track experience. Riders who are uncomfortable being in close proximity to other riders and still getting the hang of cornering. Passing will ONLY be permitted on straightaways.
-----------

YELLOW GROUP:

Designed for intermediate street riders. Riders comfortable taking corners and riding your bike with confidence. You have taken at least one track school (such as FAST Riding School). You would not consider yourself an aggressive rider. Passing is permitted on straightaways up to the "turn-in" marker and also past the apex marker, always "off the line" on the inside of the upcoming corner.
-----------

RED GROUP:

Designed for experienced street riders. Riders in this group should be very comfortable taking corners, as well as hard acceleration and braking. You probably consider yourself a skilled rider. You have taken the FAST Riding School (or similar) more than once. Passing rules are the same as per the yellow group.

SCHEDULE:

7:30am Gates open
7:30am - 8:30am Motorcycle preparation, tech inspection, signing of waivers
8:30am - 8:50am Riders meeting in paddock
8:50am - 9:15am Riders meeting continues for participants in the BLUE group
9:00am - 9:20am RED participants take to the track for their first session
9:20am - 9:40am YELLOW participants take to the track in a "follow-the-leader" format
9:40am - 10:00am BLUE participants take to the track in a "follow-the-leader" format

(Schedule repeats itself for the rest of the day: RED from :00-:20, YELLOW from :20-:40 and BLUE from :40-:00, with the exception of between 12:00pm and 1:00pm, when we will offer training exercises in the paddock area while the safety crew enjoys lunch).

RIDERS MEETING:

  • All participants must attend the riders meeting, no exceptions.

TECH INSPECTION:
All motorcycles MUST pass technical inspection prior to admission on the track. Passing tech inspections means:

  • Tires must be in EXCELLENT condition with plenty of tread remaining. If you are at or below the "wear indicators", please change them BEFORE track day. Brakes must be in good condition. Chain or Belt must be in EXCELLENT condition with no signs of RUST or DEGRADATION. If shaft drive, there must be no leakage or obvious signs of poor maintenance.
  • All glass, headlights, taillights, turn signals, and plastic lenses must be taped over or removed. The head and tail lights must not visibly shine through the tape. It is recommended that head and tail light fuses be removed.
  • Your mirrors must be removed, or completely taped. If possible, fold them in also. Personally, I recommend removing them as it is one less thing to break if you crash.
  • If your license plate is not on a large, plastic background, then you must remove it. Basically, if there are any sharp edges to the plate, then please remove it.
  • Make sure that all fasteners (body hardware, brake caliper bolts, etc.) are properly tightened. Physically go around the bike, and put a wrench or screwdriver on EVERY nut, bolt and screw you can find (or have your dealer do it just prior to track day).
  • Pay special attention to your Oil Drain Plug, Oil Filter, Levers, and Exhaust brackets.
  • All levers and controls must operate freely. Throttle must SNAP BACK to the off position when released. If you have any kind of a throttle lock or cruise control (like a Throttlemeister), remove it.
  • If your bike is LIQUID COOLED and you have full fairings, we do NOT require that you replace the coolant with water. However, if your bike does not have protection over the RADIATOR and your COOLANT OVERFLOW, then we strongly recommend that you replace it with water to prevent spilling coolant in the event of a crash.
  • It is recommended, but do not required, to remove the centre and/or side stands. Bikes with side stands should have strong springs to insure that the kickstand cannot come down accidentally.
  • All machines must have an operational handlebar mounted kill switch/button.
  • If your bike does not pass tech inspection, you will NOT receive a refund. This is entirely your responsibility.

MINIMUM GEAR REQUIREMENTS (and more is always better):

There is an old adage in motorcycle riding: "Dress for the crash, not for the ride".

  • HELMET - An UNDAMAGED, full-faced helmet with at least a SNELL95 rating (or equivalent). A high-quality, flip-face helmet is allowed - but it must ALWAYS be locked in the down position when on the track. It is IMPERATIVE that your helmet fit properly. Please take a moment to put your helmet on and look in a mirror. There should be NO SPACE between the cheek pads and forehead pads and your head. In fact, the cheek pads should slightly compress your cheeks! If you can easily fit a finger between your forehead or cheeks and the helmet, then your helmet is improperly fitted and may not protect you adequately in a crash. We reserve the right to reject a rider for an improperly fitted helmet.
  • GLOVES - Full leather, non-perforated, motorcycle gloves that are in excellent condition and leave NO EXPOSED SKIN on the hands or wrists.
  • BOOTS - Over the ankle boots, preferably motorcycle specific. HIGH TOP SNEAKERS are NOT ALLOWED, and we discourage the use of "work boots" unless they have significant hard parts. When in the riding position, the boots and pants must OVERLAP so there are no exposed areas around the ankle.
  • BACK PROTECTOR - We strongly recommend, but do not require, a HARD back protector (with hard plastic and/or foam). This can either be a separate item, or built into your clothing.
  • LEATHERS - Full leathers are not mandatory, but are highly encouraged. Leather Jacket and Pants combo are also acceptable, but they must either zip together or fully overlap at the waist area so they provide adequate coverage. (test the overlap when seated on the bike to ensure your lower back is covered!). We also allow non-leather riding suits as long as they are designed for motorcycle riding (such as Aerostich, etc.) Ideally, your gear should have padding in the knee and elbow areas, at a minimum. If they don't, consider wearing some type of "rollerblading" pads. Mesh type jackets or pants are not allowed.

PASSING RULES:

Similar to downhill skiing, it is ALWAYS the responsibility of the faster rider to make a SAFE pass. To do this, it is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to go off the line, get around safely, and then move back onto the line. The rider being passed should not be affected in any way. If you are the rider being passed - just relax and STAY ON LINE.

GENERAL RULES:

  • The consumption of alcohol and/or drugs during the hours of trackday operation is strictly prohibited. This rule applies to both riding participants & their crew, family and friends. Anyone found to be consuming alcohol will be asked to leave the grounds.
  • Our Track Day is a NON-Competitive event. No RACING or TIMING is allowed. No Wheelies or Stunts are allowed.
  • If you do anything that is against the rules, you may be penalized with loss of riding time, or you may be asked to leave!

LUNCH:

Lunch is not included in the registration cost. You can bring your oen or a cetered lunch will be available on-site for a fee.

QUESTIONS:

There are no stupid questions (especially if you have never participated in a track day before). Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Notice to licensed road-racers and track day regulars: There are plenty of opportunities for you to get track time, so we encourage you to seek those out first.

*Sport-touring motorcycles: For the purposes of our Track Day, we define a sport-touring motorcycle as any motorcycle which comes standard with saddlebags or for which you can add OEM saddlebags as an option. If saddlebags can be added by a third-party supplier (and your motorcycle is thus equipped), we might let you in. If you would never consider putting saddlebags on your bike because it would mess with the aerodynamics, then our Track Day is probably not for you.
